ButtChecker – tube-wall measuring tool
A tool we built ourselves to measure the wall thickness of frame tubes.
The story
From the idea to the result.
In frame building, knowing only a tube’s outside diameter is not enough. Butted tubes are thicker at the ends and thinner in the middle. The ButtChecker lets us trace these wall thicknesses and transitions along the tube. Building the tool ourselves also creates a different connection with the material: we understand not only the reading, but how it is produced, and experimenting is part of the fun for us.
